The Grand Opening Ceremony for the 2017 Freshmen

During this harvest season, the college welcomed nearly 200 freshmen from all over the country and held a grand opening ceremony today. The leaders who attended the ceremony were: Brian Yang, Chairman of the Telfort Education Group, Ronald Herbert Cornelius, Global Academic Director of Telfort Education Group, Dagang Xu, President of Telford Business Institute, and Michael Howbrook, the Director of Education. The ceremony also included project leaders from the Telfort Education Group. The ceremony was hosted by Vice President Hongyan Qian.

Firstly Education Director Michael Howbrook announced the winners of the 2016 -2017 academic year scholarships and issued certificates to them. The year 2015 students who won this honors were: Yanbin Shen (Thomas), Chao Lu (Carol), Mengyao Zhang (Maria), Chubin Ying (Michelle), Yujiao Chen (Flora), Kechun Zhu (Carol); year 2016 students were: Lu Lin (Luka), Liyue Zhang (Ruby), Jue’er Cai (Michelle), Xuejing Gan (Trista), Jie Wu (Jane) and Yicheng Shen (Jimmy).

Kechun Zhu and Jue’er Cai have spoken on behalf of the winners: Thank you teachers! It is your hard work, patience and enthusiasm that have given us full harvest in the past year. In the vibrant international family of Telfort, we understand the importance of independence and consciousness, the need for interests and confidence. The fascination of the college allows us to move forward step by step on the road of growth and maturity! Also, they shared their own learning experience with the junior schoolmates. To be confident, you firstly need to overcome shy and laziness, and try to resist those things that will destroy your life. Remember that for any opportunity and success, you can only get it by yourself through hard work! Only by acquiring more knowledge can we make our life and future better and better! On behalf of all the freshmen, Yanting Zhu spoke at the ceremony: We choose Telfort as the begining of our university life and we are full of confidence and expectation for the future! We shall cheer for our dreams and future!

Academic Director Ronald and Education Director Michael have spoken on behalf of the teachers: Telfort has a large number of foreign teachers who are from native English-speaking countries all over the world. Students should actively use this resource to expand their understanding and application of world culture. If you can adapt to different accented English, you can face it in any international environment in the future. Your life in Telfort will be rich and colorful, but you need to study hard and complete the exams and homework. At the same time you should learn to relax and make friends, actively participating in various social activities to cultivate your own interests, adding color to your learning life. All the teachers of Telfort will work hard with you to build a better future! I wish you good luck and enjoy your time in Telfort!

President Dagang Xu spoke on behalf of the college: Cherish the time, study hard and be grateful to your parents. I hope that the students will bear in mind these three requirements. After graduation, you will be able to take the responsibility of serving the country and society, and strive to make yourself the pillars of the future society!

Chairman Brian Yang introduced the 20-year development and running experience of the college to all the freshmen. As one of the earliest established Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions in Shanghai, the college has always insisted on cultivating students' professionalism, international vision and civic awareness. We require students to have a global literacy and innovative thinking ability, for example, be able to introduce Chinese culture in Western logic order, and take up your own mission and responsibility for the revival of Chinese culture. We hope that you are thoughtful, demeanor, and responsible no matter where you go. As long as you have a dream, Telfort will give you full support and help!

After the ceremony, Yongqi Shao, the officer from the Shanghai Public Security Bureau Wenbao Branch, the police station in western Shanghai, made a security education lecture for all the new students.
